First Impression of LG G7+ ThinQ

Taken during the hands-on session

I managed to get a hands-on experience with LG G7+ ThinQ at the launch event. Played around with their cameras, phone settings and even watched a short film on the phone itself.

LG G7+ ThinQ (LG's 2018 G Series Flagship)

This post will be my first impression on LG G7+

1. THAT DISPLAY

The LG G7+ features a 6.1-inch QHD+ (3120 x 1440) display with 19.5 by 9 FullVision Screen ration.

An average smartphones display brightness can go up to around 500Nits, as for LG G7+, you can adjust the brightness up to 1,000Nits which is pretty impressive. IT IS SUPER BRIGHT. As the event is held in zouk, you can really tell how bright it is.

With the notch implementation (Which almost all 2018 smartphone have it now ... ) they are able to make the bottom bezel slimmer by 50% when compare to the LG G6.  They called the Notch "New Second Screen", as it gives users flexible option when it comes to set it up to their own preference. If you like it, you can leave the notch alone. If not, you can just make it a black bar at the top.

2. Fantastic Audio Experience

Bang (Mobile Marketing Manager) emulating the Boombox speaker experience

LG is well known for delivering a very good audio experience to consumers. For example, they implemented their Hi-Fi Quad DAC to their headphone jack, so if you got the compatible headphone, you can actually enjoy a very good audio playback experience.

This time, LG G7+ features the Boombox Speaker, that actually utilizes the internal space as a resonance chamber to deliver double the bass compared to conventional smartphones. The result?
A Powerful "BoomBox" sound without the need for external speakers.

The staff also told me that it works well when you placed it on a solid surface such as a table to get the maximum effect.
Additionally, it is also the first smartphone to offer DTS:X. It is capable of delivering virtual 3D sound for all content up to 7.1 channel audio with earphones. (Wired or wireless works fine)

What does it mean?

You will be able to be more immersed in the show since you can literally hear everything. It like I am in the center of the "show". It is truly quite impressive, you guys should give it a try.

3. ThinQ ( AI Capabilities )

ThinQ is LG's "AI Capabilities product lines" which found its way onto LG G7.

On the camera

The phone comes with an 8MP Front camera and 16MP rear camera in both standard and Super Wide Angle configuration. (107 degrees).  It is enhanced with AI Capabilities which offers 19 shooting modes, an increase from its previous 8, for even more intelligence-optimized shots. So if you are shooting a dog, it can recognize that the subject is a dog and give its suitable filters or color adjustment.

In my opinion, the AI CAM works pretty well, just that I do not think that I would really focus on it though, as I would just take out my phone and take a photo with it.

Apart from the AI CAM features, it has also added new features that make photography on the LG G7 even more fun.

- Live focus records one second before and after the shutter is pressed.
- Stickers use face recognition to generate fun 2D and 3D overlays such as sunglasses and headbands that can be viewed directly on the display.
- Portrait Mode generates professional looking shots with out of focus backgrounds. The bokeh effect can be generated using either the standard or Super Wide Angle lens, giving shutterbugs even more creative options.

On the software

LG G7+ is one of the first few devices deeply integrate google assistant to its software and they also included a button for you to press to activate Google Assistant.

The most impressive thing is that Google Assistant is able to recognize voice commands up to five meters away due to the Super Far-Field Voice Recognition.

4. The price:

Overall, it is truly an interesting smartphone. Definitely, need to spend more time with it so that I can provide a more accurate review.
